Unmanned Aircraft Systems & Drones
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) now requires drones and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to be registered, which can be done online at www.faa.gov/uas/registration. Owners must register UAS that weigh more than 0.55 pounds and less than 55 pounds if they are being flown outdoors for hobby or recreation.

When flying within 5 miles of any airport, UAS operators must also contact the airport operator or airport traffic control tower in advance. UAS operators flying within 5 miles of Long Beach Airport must contact the air traffic control tower at (562) 424-7128 with prior notice of the operation.
