Emergency Drill at LGB - Tonight, April 24

April 21, 2015

Long Beach Airport (LGB) and numerous agencies and stakeholders will test inter-agency communications and response capabilities during an emergency response training exercise tonight, April 24, from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Preparation for the emergency exercise is currently underway. As part of the exercise you may see movement of a large number of emergency vehicles with their emergency lights on. Emergency vehicle activity may start as early as 8:00 p.m. and will continue until approximately 12:00 a.m.

The airport will continue in normal operation throughout the exercise, which will take place on the airfield near the passenger concourse and last approximately two hours. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airports to conduct a full on-site exercise once every three years. The drill scenario calls for a simulation of an incident with mass casualties. Volunteers will play the role of victims needing attention at the scene.

Drill participants will also include: Long Beach Fire Department, Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Search and Rescue, Long Beach Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Dignity Health St. Mary's Medical Center, Liberty Ambulance Services, Boeing Fire Department, JetBlue Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Mercy Air.
